Mandatory Training for Supported Living Care and Support Workers
Our Mandatory Training for support workers aims to support practitioners working in supported living settings. Our training is aligned to Skills for Care statutory and mandatory standards, covering 20 topics, which cover a wide range of essential skills and knowledge.
Our supported living mandatory training will focus on roles and responsibilities of supporting individuals living in supported care settings. This includes the need of providing active support and assisting individuals to exercise their rights and access opportunities available to other members of the community. It is therefore essential that our training reflects the uniqueness of working in supported living setting.
Working in supported living is increasingly recognised as a specialist area by both the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and local authorities. Contrary to the belief that being a support worker working in supported living merely involves sitting idly, this role demands active engagement and a dynamic skill set. Supported living care workers are expected to demonstrate excellent communication skills, which are key for effective interaction with individuals and colleagues alike.
One of the key initiatives within supported living is STOMP (Stopping Over-Medication of People with a Learning Disability, Autism or Both), which aims to reduce the reliance on unnecessary medications and promote healthier lifestyle choices. This initiative underscores the importance of personalised care plans that prioritise individual needs.
Embracing the Reach Standards is essential for ensuring that individuals receive the right support, right care, and are part of the right culture. These standards guide supported workers to promote an environment where individuals can lead fulfilling lives with dignity and independence.
As a support worker you will be expected to promote access to community activities as part of ntegrating individuals into society and enhancing their quality of life. For example facilitating participation in local events, volunteer opportunities, or recreational activities tailored to individuals interests.
The training will focus on supporting individuals with a range of needs including learning disabilities and autism. This can be achieved by incorporating case studies that are specific to the challenges faced when providing support to individuals with learning disabilities and autism. These case studies help care workers understand the unique needs of each individual they support.
Our mandatory training for carers working in supported living also helps care workers develop the necessary skills, knowledge, and empathy required to provide the right care, right support, and foster a supportive culture. This means ensuring that care workers have the necessary skills, knowledge, and attitudes to provide person-centred care that respects individual preferences, promotes independence, and fosters a supportive environment.
The aim of our mandatory training for care workers working in supported living is not only to meet legal requirements but also to help staff become competent and confident in their roles. By working closely with employers, we ensure that the training aligns with their specific staff and business requirements. This collaborative approach ensures that care workers receive comprehensive training tailored to their needs.
